FOOD AS MEDICINE

Menus are inclusive recognizing most diets based on exclusion rather than inclusion.

In the West we speak of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and other components of food. In the East the focus is on yin/yang dimensions: the warming and cooling values of food, the ability to moisten, strength energy, calm the mind, reduce watery or mucoid accumulations, and others. Incorporating such systems into modern nutrition: it works with subtle flows of energy, reaching diagnostically far in advance to predict and prevent approaching illnesses; it helps one select the most useful remedies from the myriad of possibilities.

The Four Noble Truths comprise the essence of Buddha's teachings: the truth of suffering, the cause of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path that leads to the end of suffering. Following this formula and acknowledging that (1) we all suffer from less than perfect health at times, that (2) our food choices can be the cause of suffering, that (3) we can make better choices and (4) we can take a path to better health when given reliable information and means to access our own inner wisdom, we create a sound, sustainable foundation for a path to better health and well-being. As an implicit part of the Eightfold Path, Food as Medicine is a path with better choices to be made through wisdom and information to assist with relief.
